Dry Cleaning facts about...

Curtain Cleaning

123 Cleaners are proud to announce that we are now able to offer through our “specialist service” our “guarantee” that we will not shrink your curtains.

The result is superb due to our new curtain finishing machine which allows us to re-pleat curtains (not previously possible) and guarantee length, which is not true for most dry cleaners

Important facts to know:

  • GUARANTEED NO SHRINKAGE (Specialist Service Only)
  • TAKE DOWN & REHANG SERVICE AVAILABLE Specialist Service Only)
  • MOST CURTAINS WILL SHRINK IN DRY CLEANING

Tips & hints:

  • Don’t forget we offer a ‘professional’ take down and re-hang service.
  • Re-hanging curtains and dressing them correctly is not only time consuming, but a professional can really make the difference between your curtains looking good, or limp and drab.
  • Glazed finishes may be removed in whole or part by the dry cleaning solution. There is no way of knowing the result until after cleaning. Most modern fabrics will be fine.
  • Watermarks on curtains and lining fabrics can not be removed in dry cleaning.
  • It is a good idea to check that curtain weights, hem and side stitching, as well as lining stitching is secure before being cleaned.
  • Dry cleaning is a wet process therefore the fabric of curtains and linings is put under considerable strain when being cleaned. It is vital that an expert is used when handling curtains
  • The sun’s Ultra Violet rays will bleach the colour from the edges of curtains as they hang, particularly south facing windows.

More information:

  • Lining fabrics can rot due to Ultra Violet (UV) damage. This may not be noticeable until the curtains are taken down. UV damage is usually in the vertical folds exposed to the light as well as the edges, which weakens the fabric, possibly tearing in cleaning; The dry cleaner cannot be held responsible for this.
  • Interlined and those curtains with blackout linings will cost considerably more to clean due to the special process required.
  • Always regularly brush and if possible vacuum the tops of curtains.
  • Curtains cleaned every two to four years will last and look good for many years. Swapping curtains over within pairs e.g. left to right and right to left will help to avoid some of the sun’s damage.
  • Curtains without the correct or sufficient hooks will never hang properly.
  • Full length curtains that touch the floor will never hang properly, correctly hung they should be one centimetre off the floor and then they will hang properly in their pleats. There should be adjustment on the heading.
  • Most curtains cleaned by 123 Cleaners will be hung after cleaning prior to re-hanging, collection or delivery, this helps to prevent creasing.
